Shampoo-free Hair

Over the last six months or so I was recommended by a friend to try a hair-washing alternative. I didn't do it right and decided it wasn't for me. However, I read more on the no-poo alternative and this is the recipe I've used for the last couple months: 1 T baking soda in two cups of hot water rubbing the scalp followed by 1 T apple cider vinegar (and a drop or two of essential oil if desired) in two cups of hot water as a rinse. I also brush 100 strokes daily and 15 minutes prior to hair washing. I've been off chemical-laden shampoos since February '07. However, the natural alternatives are expensive and I've enjoyed this thrifty, natural method. My hair is clean, thick and soft.
