Peter Pan's ship
I can't help but remember when with my young children I would call Sutro Tower Peter Pan's ship. Well, isn't it?

Happy Birthday Muni
December 28, 2012, marks 100 years of operation for San Francisco Municipal Railway. All rides are free including cable cars. I started riding the J-Church streetcar in 1964 when fare was 15 cents and drivers still made change. It's only $2.00 now and 75 cents for youth 5 to 17 and 65 and over. One sees humanity from all walks of life on Muni. It's the way to get around the city. I love centennials and this is a big one. Cable cars and streetcars run on tracks; trolleys have wheels and are attached to overhead lines that often come off. Pictured is a cable car that climbs halfway to the stars (for $6). Before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m. oldsters can cough up a reduced fare of $3.00.

Better late than never
Thirty years ago Michael and I were married and we have a temple certificate but I don't think we ever got the state certificate. So that's what I just did. I walked to City Hall and was allowed to get it with City id. since I didn't bring my license. Then by the playground there's a tree with ornaments made by children from all over the world. I was invited to hang one and he took my picture, then offered me a kiwi. I've never been hit by a pigeon but one flew by and hit the side of my head. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Happy anniversary darling. I love you.
Something magical happened last night
Three years ago I answered the door at night thinking it was my son. I found my front yard filled with some 41 ward members (I learned later) come to carol to me less than two months after my husband's passing. And today would have been our 30th wedding anniversary. Last night I was cooking and thought I heard something outside and then someone knocked. It was one of my favorite families, a couple with four beautiful children, singing and motioning a carol to me in Portuguese. I was delighted. I got hugs and a bag of socks and candies. It doesn't get much better.

Thanksgiving Day 2012
I spent Thanksgiving in Louisiana this year with my daughter, her husband, their first baby, and Paul who also flew in. We accepted an invitation from a family who often invites newly relocated families and they have a huge, stately home on a hill in a new development. Part of the dishes were pot luck from the four invited families and the food was delicious. When the pies and whipped cream were ready I asked for a picture. We ate at two decorated tables in the home and were on the terrace overlooking the pool to enjoy the afternoon sun for dessert. Of course I sampled all of them. Unfortunately mother and baby slept and/or nursed much of the day in the guest room. Paul got almost everyone involved in Dominion. I was allowed to explore the upper floor and partially finished lower level. It was a unique day. At our table I suggested we each tell what we're thankful for. I remember Rick saying he was thankful for his strikingly beautiful wife and modern technology that allowed them to have their baby. Amen.
